In Brief: Suit Over Expansion Goes to Appellate Court

WASHINGTON - The U.S. circuit court of appeals will hear oral arguments Sept. 29 in the longest-running legal challenge to credit union expansions.

The five-year-old suit pits the American Bankers Association and a group of North Carolina banks against the National Credit Union Administration. At issue is whether the regulator exceeded its authority by allowing AT&T Family Federal Credit Union to add unrelated employer groups to its membership.

Last year the district court decided the merits of the case and ruled against the bankers. The ABA then appealed, which set the stage for the September hearing.
