GM Card Adds Specialty Stores To Rebate Plan

GM MasterCard holders can now earn 10% rebates by shopping at Marshalls department stores, Kay Bee toy stores, Linens 'N Things, and CVS drugstores.

The specialty retailers, managed by the Rye, N.Y.-based Melville Corp., have become the latest to join General Motors Corp.'s Accelerated Earnings Network for its credit card program.

"Our specialty retail stores appeal to a broad range of value- conscious consumers, many of whom use credit cards to make their purchases," said Jerald S. Politzer, executive vice president of Melville.

Using the GM card to purchase goods or services from companies participating in the network enables a cardholder to receive 5% in additional rebates per transaction.

GM Card earnings - 5% per transaction - can add up to $500 per year or $3,500 over seven years toward the purchase of new GM car or truck. Gold card holders can earn $1,000 in rebates each year, and $7,000 over seven years. There is no earnings cap with Accelerated Earnings Network purchases, so a cardholder can exceed the $3,500 and $7,000 limits.

"We are very pleased with the addition of these specialty retail stores, which has enabled us to break new ground," said Bill Anderson, director of U.S. consumer marketing for the GM card.

Other network partners include Mobil Oil Corp., MCI, Alamo Rent a Car, Marriott Hotels, Suites and Resorts, Courtyard by Marriott and Fairfield Inns by Marriott, and participating GM dealerships.

The GM Card and Kroger Co., meanwhile, are conducting a one-year pilot in Michigan so that cardholders in the Detroit area can receive 1% in additional earnings using the card at the supermarket.

More than 12 million people carry the no-fee GM card. To date, GM said more than 450,000 cardholders have redeemed rebates.
