Short takes: State Street to Safekeep for Kaufmann Fund

State State Street Bank and Trust Co. has signed an agreement to provide custodial and transfer agent services to the Kaufmann Fund.

The banking subsidiary of State Street Boston Corp., which was appointed custodian of the $1.5 billion-asset Kaufmann Fund in February, announced the deal this month. The fund is advised by Edgemont Asset Management Corp., New York.

Boston Financial Data Services, an affiliate of State Street, was named transfer agent for the fund.

State Street replaced New York-based Citicorp, which had provided the same services for the fund company until earlier this year, according to sources close to the deal.

State Street is one of the country's largest securities custodians, with more than $1.7 trillion under custody, of which $787.9 billion are mutual fund assets, according to a company spokeswoman.
