Tech Bytes: Computer-Based Guide To Securities Markets

NEW YORK - Bankers Trust's global institutional services group last month introduced a software reference tool for securities settlement.

The PC-based software, which runs under Windows, is called GlobalGuide. It is meant let investment managers and other institutional investors access information on virtually all of the world's active securities markets.

Investment managers can review market entry requirements for specific countries, review ownership rules, and exchange information on settlement procedures, Bankers Trust said.

A user who wants to trade in Korea, for example, can select the country by clicking on a map and then select from market information, settlement procedures, bank services, and other listings. These include tax treaty tables and delivery instructions for the respective country. A search function can scan the 56 countries served by Bankers Trust global institutional services for specific information.

The $97 billion-asset bank holding company began sending copies of the guide to 1,000 of its clients in March. Updates will be released periodically.
