Smart Card brief: B of A Testing Cards With Technology Staff

SAN FRANCISCO - Bank of America is issuing nearly 4,000 smart cards to employees at its technology center in Concord, Calif.

The cards, which can store up to $50, can be used at the cafeteria, coffee stand, sundry shop, and vending machines in the complex.

Bank of America expects eventually to tie the card in with a standard debit card. The test cards are supplied by Gemplus Group and the stored- value application and cash-transfer machines by Schlumberger-Danyl.
