Cards Briefs: Transmedia Network Fills Board Vacancy

NEW YORK - Transmedia Network Inc., a marketer of discount dining cards, announced the election of A. Barry Merkin to replace Charles Simonelli, who retired, on its board of directors.

Mr. Merkin is professor of entrepreneurship at Northwestern University's J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management.

To date, Transmedia said, more than 4,300 restaurants and half a million card members have joined its program. The company's headquarters and service center are in North Miami, Fla.

For its second quarter, Transmedia's revenues were $17.4 million, up from $11.8 million in the same period of 1994, and earnings per share rose to 12 cents, from 10 cents.
