McElveen Opts To Retire Early From Key Post At Premier Bank

H. Brooks McElveen, who has been instrumental in shaping Premier Bank, is taking early retirement next year to pursue other interests.

Mr. McElveen is currently president of Premier Bank, principal subsidiary of Premier Bancorp, Baton Rouge, La. He has been president of the bank since 1992, and before that was head of retail banking.

He plans to spend more time with his family and perhaps pursue a teaching job in the field of economics.

"I've loved every minute of my tenure at Premier. It's a fine group of people who are truly dedicated to their mission. I'll miss them, but it's time for me to do some other things which also interest me," said Mr. McElveen. "Throughout my career, I've always tried to help people set and meet their objectives, and it's always given me pleasure when they were successful. Now I have some personal goals I want to pursue."

During his tenure as president and chief retail executive, Premier consolidated its retail banking operations, introduced a variety of banking services, and established itself as one of the state's leading retail banking companies.

Mr. McElveen began his career in 1962 as a management trainee at Louisiana National Bank, a predecessor of Premier Bank. He was instrumental in Louisiana NB's launch of the credit card business in 1968, and managed the credit card center during its period of rapid growth.

He has held the post of president at four other Louisiana banks during his career, including Bank of Commerce in Shreveport, La., Continental Bank in Metairie, La., Bank of St. John in LaPlace, La., and Britton & Koontz First National bank in Natchez, Miss.

He has also held leadership roles in various civic organizations in the communities where he has lived.
