OMAHA - Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp. has introduced what it bills as the first touch-screen SmartPhone in Asia outside Japan.
The project employs the Base24 software of Omaha-based Applied Communications Inc. and Tandem's Nonstop Himalaya hardware.
Reserved for the Singapore-based bank's customers, the SmartPhone can be used to confirm account balances, transfer funds, pay bills, change personal identification numbers, provide interest and exchange rate information, and report loss of passbook or automated teller machine cards.
Separately, Applied Communications said it is one of four companies chosen by the Indian Banks Association to run the first shared automated teller machine network for banks operating in Bombay.
The other members of the consortium are Tandem Computers Inc., Cupertino, Calif., and two Bombay-based companies: Financial Software and Systems and HMA Data Systems.
The consortium, which has a five-year exclusive contract, will initially establish a pilot network of 100 ATMs in Bombay.
Also, Applied Communications said it has developed transaction payment software to support acquirers and issuers for Visa's Interlink network.
The software will enable Visa members worldwide to access the Interlink program.
