Card Briefs: Bank of Boston Installing ATMs in 11 Wal-Marts

BOSTON - Bank of Boston Corp. announced an agreement with Wal-Mart Stores Inc. to install automated teller machines at 11 Wal-Mart retail locations - six in Connecticut and five in Rhode Island.

Wal-Mart customers will be able to withdraw cash from ATMs upon entering the stores. Bank of Boston customers will also be able to check balances and transfer funds between accounts.

Bank of Boston, with $43.5 billion of assets, has installed ATMs in Groton, Manchester, North Windham, and Norwich, Conn., and Cranston, Westerly, and Woonsocket, R.I. The remaining ATMs will be installed over the next six months.

The bank said it is furthering its efforts to beef up its personal banking business, which has grown to 25% of revenues.
