Capital Briefs: Supreme Court to Hear Foreign Currencies Case

The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to decide whether the Commodity Futures Trading Commission has jurisdiction over foreign currency options.

The case, CFTC v. Dunn, stems from an exemption to the 1974 law creating the agency. The exemption was meant to protect bank foreign-exchange operations from the CFTC's reach. But some courts have said the provision prevents the agency from regulating any foreign currency trades.
