Tech Bytes: HNC, Consulting Firm Scotch Merger Plans

HNC Software Inc. and Credit and Risk Management Associates Inc. have called off their announced merger.

Company executives said the transaction was canceled because the deal did not qualify for "pooling of interests" accounting treatment.

HNC will take a charge for related costs of approximately $100,000 in the current quarter.

Credit and Risk Management is a Baltimore-based consulting and service company specializing in data warehousing and risk management.

HNC Software makes software based on neural network technology, which does computation-heavy tasks that help banks identify and prevent fraud.
