Cards Briefs: MasterCard Hires Exec As Head U.S. Marketer

Nicholas A. Utton has been named senior vice president of marketing for the U.S. region of MasterCard International Inc.

Reporting to the region's president, Alan J. Heuer, Mr. Utton will be responsible for advertising, sponsorships, and promotions, working closely with the association's global marketing group. It is a new position for MasterCard.

A native of Durban, South Africa, Mr. Utton, 39, has 16 years of marketing experience. He was senior vice president of marketing at Revlon International. He also worked for Cadbury Schweppes and Bristol-Meyers.

Mr. Heuer said Mr. Utton "rounds out our senior management team in the U.S."

H. Eugene Lockhart, president and chief executive of MasterCard International, said Mr. Utton's packaged-goods background will be "invaluable as we work with members to develop innovative marketing approaches which support today's payments products as well as those in the future."

Mr. Utton has degrees from the University of Natal and University of South Africa. He lives in Greenwich, Conn.
