Cybercash Inc. Hires a Hot Shot In Home Banking

Richard C. Crone, a prominent electronic banking consultant, has joined Cybercash Inc..

He is based at its Redwood City, Calif., office.

As vice president and general manager/electronic check, Mr. Crone will oversee Cybercash's development of direct access to checking accounts and funds over open networks like the Internet.

"We're talking about direct digital access to demand deposit accounts - DDA to DDA," said Mr. Crone in a brief interview during the National Automated Clearing House Association's Cyberpayments '96 conference in Dallas.

Cybercash, based in Reston, Va., was one of the pioneers in facilitating credit card payments over the Internet and is currently developing and offering a more diversified "electronic wallet," later to include digital cash.

Mr. Crone has been a "free agent" consultant since January, after a three-month stint as co-director of home banking at Home Savings of America, Irwindale, Calif.

Before that, he was at KPMG Peat Marwick and spoke and wrote frequently on interactive financial services.
