In Briefs: Roosevelt Savings' Outreach Effort Cited

The Public Relations Society of America N.Y. has awarded its "Big Apple" award to Roosevelt Savings Bank for a community outreach program that has provided 400 homeowners in the Bedford-Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn with home-repair skills.

Volunteers from Roosevelt and Neighborhood Housing Services of Bed-Stuy organize and teach the Brooklyn Home Maintenance Training Program, conducted in one of the bank's Brooklyn branches.

The program offers instruction in carpentry, electrical systems, tile installation and repair, plumbing, drywall installation, painting, and other renovation techniques.

Since it the program started three years ago, enrollment has grown to 400 from 20. Classes are taught three times per week for 10 weeks.
