Changes at Top In Michigan For Chemical Financial Unit

Charles O. Holmes, president of the bank that Michigan's Chemical Financial Corp. bought this spring in the Thumb Peninsula area, has moved up to chairman.

Douglas H. Herringshaw, a longtime executive of Midland-based Chemical Financial, succeeded him in the presidency of Caro-based Chemical Bank Thumb Area. Mr. Holmes remains chief executive.

Mr. Holmes joined State Savings Bank of Caro in 1951. In May, when Chemical Financial bought it, he had been president and CEO for three years and a director for several months.

Mr. Herringshaw, who joined Chemical Financial in 1978, has become the Caro bank's chief lending officer and a director as well as its president.

He was most recently executive vice president of Chemical Bank Bay Area, Bay City, whose seven branches were transferred June 1 to Chemical Bank Thumb Area.

Craig A. Bishop has become vice president in charge of the Caro bank's commercial loan department. He had been vice president and lead officer at the Caro offices of Chemical Bank Bay Area, his employer since 1989.

The holding company is not related to the former Chemical Banking Corp. in New York, now part of Chase Manhattan Corp.
