Golf Tournament Features Wireless Card Validation

Chicago-based 360-Degree Communications Co. is providing point of sale processing at a professional golf tournament in Virginia Beach, using its cellular digital packet data technology.

The communications company is providing the cellular digital packet data network, and U.S. Wireless Data Inc. is providing the wireless point-of-sale machinery to outdoor vendors at the Michelob Championship at Kingsmill.

"Vendors love the flexibility of knowing transactions can be validated anywhere they are selling goods," said Bob Sage, general manager of 360- Degree.

The wireless terminals will be used in sales of tickets, golf attire, and golfing accessories.

360-Degree Communications is a sponsor of the PGA Tour event, which runs through Sunday.
