Capital Briefs: 1995 Mortgage Disclosure Act Data Available

Home Mortgage Disclosure Act data from 1995 is now available, federal regulators announced.

In a July 10 press release, the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council said the data is available from any of the 9,500 lenders covered by HMDA. The nationwide HMDA loan application register data is available on magnetic tape, CD-ROM, and computer disk. The council will send the aggregate reports and individual disclosure statements to a central location in each metropolitan area for public inspection by July 31.

According to the data, which covers home purchase and home improvement loans, 11.2 million loans and applications were reported in 1995, a decrease of approximately 8% from 1994. Regulators attributed the decline to a drop in refinancing activity.

The exam council also announced the availability of mortgage insurance data at the nation's eight private mortgage insurance companies. Order forms can be obtained by calling 202-452-2016.
