Tech Bytes: NationsBank to Test Affinity's Loan Terminals

NationsBank Corp. said it plans to test automated loan terminals made by Affinity Technology Group, Columbia, S.C.

The test is slated to run through the end of 1997, but NationsBank executives did not specify how many terminals it will test nor did say where they will be deployed.

The terminals, which have been installed by several banking companies, including Banc One Corp. and Puerto Rico's Banponce Corp., let banks make consumer loans through a device that resembles and operates like an automated teller machine.

In many cases, loan decisions and proceeds can be delivered through the machines in as little as 10 minutes.

Enhanced versions of the terminals can sell more than just lending products, and NationsBank plans to test these capabilities, according to a statement from Affinity.
