In Brief: Capstead Reports 84% Increase in 2Q Profits

Capstead Mortgage Corp. increased its earnings by 84% in the second quarter, to $32.2 million

Per-share earnings jumped to 90 cents, from 35 cents.

Ronn Lytle, chairman and chief executive, attributed the big gain to reduced borrowing costs and bigger interest spreads on its portfolio of mortgage securities. Gains on securities sales also contributed, he said.
