In Brief: Natwest Veteran to Lead Fleet's N.Y.C. Effort

A former Natwest mortgage chief has been tapped to lead Fleet Financial Group's small-business efforts in metro New York and New Jersey.

Joseph Wessely, who headed Natwest Home Mortgage Corp. before Fleet bought its U.S. holding company, was this month named executive vice president in charge of small-business banking in the two markets.

Mr. Wessely will be in charge of banking small businesses with $10 million or less in annual revenues.

Fleet's business banking division, led by director Filomena M. Soyster, is considered one of the more progressive among large banks.
