Card Briefs: Off-Line Debit Up Eightfold for Mellon

Mellon Bank Corp. said its network services processing unit has increased its monthly off-line debit transactions eightfold.

March volume hit more than four million transactions, compared with 500,000 transactions in March 1995.

Mellon Network Services said it is preparing to process off-line debit for 100 new financial institutions.

The division processes more than 30 million credit and debit transactions per month. It offers 44 regional, national, and international automated teller machine and point of sale gateways to nearly 1,000 client organizations.
