Capital Briefs: N.Y. Banking Department Gets Web Site

The New York State Banking Department has joined the information age by launching a site on the Internet's World Wide Web.

Bankers can log onto the page to read about the agency's latest regulatory actions. They also can post comments on proposed rules and merger applications.

Also available are the latest Community Reinvestment Act exam schedules and license applications for check cashers and mortgage brokers.

The site also contains consumer self-help information, including a section devoted to frequently asked questions about mortgages and credit cards. It also contains copies of speeches made by banking department officials as well as agency press releases.

"Our Web site will be a tremendous help to consumers and will give those in the banking industry up-to-date information on the department's activities," New York Banking Superintendent Neil Levin said in a prepared statement.

The site can be reached at http://www.banking.state.ny.us.
