In Brief: BankBoston Subsidiary Offering a Debit Card

BayBank, a subsidiary of the BankBoston unit of Bank of Boston Corp., last week introduced a debit card for small businesses.

The bank is using a direct mail campaign to promote the MasterCard product among existing customers, a company spokeswoman said. Customers who have a line of credit and are in good standing with the bank are automatically prequalified for the card. Other customers must meet certain credit guidelines.

BayBank will issue up to four cards per business, according to a press release.
