Informix-Gemplus-HP Venture Shows Off
CHICAGO - Informix Software Inc., Gemplus, and Hewlett-Packard Co. demonstrated their jointly developed smart card technology at Informix's recent user conference in Chicago.
The companies formed their alliance, ImagineCard, last year.
Informix, a leading provider of data base technology, used the smart cards for conference registrations, attendee feedback, access to meetings, access to the World Wide Web, and electronic mail. Verifone Hires Payment Systems Inc. for Study
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - Verifone Inc. said it has signed Payment Systems Inc. of Tampa, Fla., to conduct its 1996 research on retailers' attitudes toward emerging payment technologies.
The project is the fifth in a series that Verifone has commissioned as a service to the industry. The results are released immediately following each year's American Bankers Association bank card conferences. The 1996 presentation is scheduled for Oct. 2 at the Dolphin Hotel in Orlando, Fla.
Payment Systems Inc. last worked with Verifone on a 1994 study of merchants' attitudes toward debit cards. In 1995, Global Concepts Inc. of Atlanta did a survey on Internet commerce.
Denis Calvert, Verifone vice president and U.S. division general manager, said the new study, "Meeting Future Merchant Needs with Total Payment Solutions," will cover debit, stored-value, and smart cards and Internet activity. Keystone Buys German Card-Making System
VALENCIA, Calif. - Keystone Manufacturing Plastics Ltd., a Canadian card manufacturer, purchased a fully automatic smart card production system from Meinen, Ziegel & Co. of Munich, Germany.
Keystone, in business since 1984, is located in Scarborough, Ontario, a suburb of Toronto.
The manufacturer supplies millions of cards to customers around the world, including North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Products include debit, credit, identification, access control, and smart cards.
The new system will enhance existing advanced card production capabilities. Drexler Gets Record Order for Memory Card
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - Drexler Technology Corp. said it has received the largest single order from an American customer for its LaserCard optical memory cards.
The unidentified customer ordered 100,000 of the four megabyte recordable wallet cards.
Drexler said it has begun making the cards, with production scheduled through December. Deliveries will be made during this and the next two quarters.
