Capital Briefs: Deadline Extended for Development Funding

The Community Development Financial Institutions Fund has extended the application deadline for seed money for low-income projects to Jan. 29.

The agency, which administers the Bank Enterprise Award and Community Development Financial Institutions programs, extended the deadline to make up for days lost during the government shutdown and the blizzard that struck Washington this month.

To complete the applications, banks, thrifts, credit unions, and venture funds needed information from the census bureau and Labor Department, both of which were closed for most of January.

More than $30 million is available through the community development program, and $15.5 million through Bank Enterprise Awards. While CDFI Fund Director Kirsten Moy could not say how many applications have been filed so far, she did say, "Demand is very high." Olaf de Senerpont Domis
