In Brief: Supervisors Certify Va., Colo. Regulators

The Conference of State Bank Supervisors accredited West Virginia's bank regulatory agency and reaccredited Colorado's.

The designation by the national trade group means the agencies meet national standards for bank regulation. The accreditation process includes self-evaluation by each state and review by a team of veteran state and federal regulators.

Thirty-nine states are accredited.

The West Virginia Department of Banking oversees 75 state banks with assets of $8.4 billion, as well as credit unions, holding companies, and consumer finance companies. The Colorado Division of Banking supervises 127 state banks with $9.96 billion in assets, five nondeposit trusts, three insured trust companies, and five industrial banks.
