Tech Bytes: Intuit Links Quicken To CFI Real-Time System

Banks that use CFI Proservices Inc.'s home banking system soon will be able to offer real-time connections to consumers who use Intuit Inc.'s Quicken financial software.

CFI's new service will be among the first outside connections to Intuit's recently announced OpenExchange program, scheduled to become available by 1997.

CFI's Personal Branch system is used by about 20 banks and 130 credit unions.

The Portland, Ore., company's agreement with Intuit will let financial institution customers make real-time connections using Quicken, the most popular personal financial software product.

Quicken users banking from home have had to rely upon connections to their banks provided by Intuit's payment processing subsidiary. Most of those connections used batch processing, updating accounts daily.

Intuit announced Sept. 16 that it would sell Intuit Services Corp. to Checkfree Corp. and said it would allow other software companies to create products that would connect to Quicken.
