Citicorp to Use Tandem Computer's Telephone Banking System in Singapore

Tandem Computers Inc. said Citicorp chose its technology to deliver telephone banking services in Singapore.

Known as the computer telephone integration solution, or CTI, the technology allows customers to call the bank, punch in their personal identification numbers, and be guided through a voice response system through inquiries and transactions. It runs on Tandem's Himalaya server.

Tandem said Citi wanted a sophisticated system that did not require drastic changes to its existing infrastructure. Tandem worked with alliance partners Applied Communications Inc. and Alta Vista Systems to meet the specifications.

When customers call in, they are immediately identified by a customer identification number. High-net-worth callers can be switched instantly to a personal banker.

"Tandem's CTI solution allows us to increase our customers' comfort level and gives us a more sophisticated and flexible banking platform to meet our future needs, said Raymond Lim, business manager for Citibanking.
