Merrill Lynch Taps Bank Exec to Lead Michigan Trust Unit

Merrill Lynch & Co. has hired an Old Kent Financial Corp. senior vice president to run the brokerage's new trust bank in Michigan.

In his new post, Mark Mitchell will oversee a team of three trust officers at the Merrill Lynch Trust Bank of Michigan.

Mr. Mitchell and his team will be supported by referrals from Merrill's 285 brokers statewide.

Set up in the Detroit suburb of Bloomfield Hills, the new bank is the sixth trust institution set up in nine years by the country's largest financial services provider.

Merrill Lynch Trust Cos. has been cutting its teeth in the trust field by hiring seasoned trust officers away from banks.

Mr. Mitchell has 15 years of trust experience.
