Short Takes: Ex-PNC Brokerage Chief Now Leads Crestar Unit

Crestar Financial Corp. has hired Robert H. Drysdale to run its retail brokerage in Richmond.

Mr. Drysdale, chairman of the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board, a national self-regulatory trade group, started work as president of Crestar Securities Corp., an affiliate of the $18.5 billion-asset banking company, two weeks ago.

In addition to serving as a full-service brokerage, Crestar Securities provides a variety of other services for institutional and individual investors, including mergers and acquisition and corporate finance advice.

Previously, Mr. Drysdale was chairman of PNC Securities Inc., a subsidiary of PNC Bank Corp. in Pittsburgh, where he oversaw similar activities before resigning this year.

Mr. Drysdale reports to Thomas D. "Skitch" Hogan, who is in charge of Crestar Capital Management Group. Crestar Capital Management encompasses the brokerage, the proprietary mutual fund family, trust, investment management, and private banking.

The brokerage was run by Thad Evans, a longtime Crestar banker, who retired late last year, when the bank made structural changes. In the interim, executive vice president Charles Wright ran the day-to-day operations of Crestar Securities.
