Card Briefs: Visa in Rewards Deal With Travel Agents

Visa U.S.A. introduced a marketing agreement with travel agents that rewards them for booking travel on Visa cards.

Agents will earn merchandise and services for their agencies and clients by selecting Visa as their preferred method of payment, or by encouraging clients to use Visa cards for airline tickets.

Visa Preferred, as the program is called, "will increase the value of the Visa product, while supporting agencies as they build businesses for themselves," said Thomas C. Edwards, senior vice president, travel and entertainment marketing, for Visa U.S.A.

Until Nov. 25, agencies will receive four rewards points for each airline transaction booked. After that each transaction will net two points. The agency can redeem a $25 gift certificate for every 2,500 points accumulated at Office Max, 1-800 FLOWERS, Sharper Image, and T.G.I. Friday's, among others, or for memberships at the American Society of Travel Agents and Institute of Certified Travel Agents.
