Tech Bytes: Broadway & Seymour Phone Software for Dime

Dime Bancorp. said it is buying software from Broadway & Seymour Inc. to improve its customer service operations.

Dime officials said the software, called TouchPoint, will give the thrift's telephone representatives a complete view of its customer relationships.

David J. Totaro, executive vice president of Dime Savings Bank, said the new software will help sales representatives cross-sell products and services to the thrift's retail customers.

"From a sales and service standpoint, it's an essential part of our building program," he said.

Dime, a New York-based thrift with $19 billion in assets, is a new customer for Charlotte, N.C.-based Broadway & Seymour. Specific terms of the software deal are still under negotiation.

Mr. Totaro expects to have the software installed and operational by midyear 1997.

The thrift used Benton International, a Tampa-based consulting firm, to help it choose from the dozen vendors who offer similar software.

Hibernia Corp., New Orleans, and Old Kent Financial Corp., Grand Rapids, Mich., also are TouchPoint users. The software became commercially available in October.
