Amsouth to Use Trust Software From Sungard

Sungard Asset Management Software Systems, a unit of Sungard Data Systems Inc., said it has sold trust administration software to Amsouth Bancorp., Birmingham, Ala.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Amsouth said it will run Sungard's Omni Exec software on 70 workstations. The software license is part of a trust systems upgrade that also includes the acquisition of two RS/6000 midrange computers from International Business Machines Corp.

Donald W. Birdwell, president of Sungard Asset Management, said Omni Exec will let the bank's trust officers provide customers with graphically presented account data such as asset allocation information and projections of income based on returns from securities and other assets.

The Amsouth deal comes as Sungard Asset Management is changing the way it supports it products.

Sungard, which is also based in Birmingham, has created separate support groups for its two main software lines, Omni Exec and Trustware.

Sungard Asset Management, which provides trust, custody, and asset management software for 178 financial institutions, acquired Trustware from National Computer Systems Inc. in July for $95 million.

Trustware customers had been concerned that Sungard might not support the software long-term. Mr. Birdwell said the reorganization should calm those fears.
