Tech Bytes: 9 More Banks Offer Microsoft Service

Nine financial institutions have announced plans to offer home banking services through Microsoft Corp.'s personal finance software, Microsoft Money.

The institutions are: Bank Atlantic, Bank of Stockton (Calif.), Commercial Federal Bank of Omaha, Commerce Bank, First Michigan Bank Corp., First Union Corp., Laredo National Bank, PNC Bank Corp., and Signet Banking Corp.

In total, 30 banking companies have committed themselves to offer PC- based home banking using Microsoft Money. About 19 of these are already providing services to their customers using the software. The rest are bringing the service on-line.

Customers of banks that offer home banking through Money can use the software to pay bills electronically, balance checking accounts, transfer funds between accounts, and learn account balances.

Many of the banks delivering home banking with Money also offer home banking through Quicken personal finance software from Intuit Inc.
