Card Briefs: MasterCard Names Manager for China

MasterCard International said it has named Han Weiqiang as its vice president and general manager for China.

Mr. Han will manage the association's marketing, strategic planning, member banks, and government relations in China, Dow Jones reported.

Mr. Han has 10 years experience in investment banking and consulting in China and North America. He has a degree from the Beijing Science and Technology University and two graduate degrees from Boston University.

He joined MasterCard from China Enterprise Management Corp., a unit of the Boston-based merchant bank Bankhouse Corp., where he was the chief Beijing representative.

MasterCard had issued 11.7 million cards in China as of June 30, and last year had a volume of $71.7 billion from transactions on the mainland.
