Evening the Score?

Fair, Isaac & Co. was a pioneer in developing credit scoring and continues to dominate the business.

But the California-based firm is not alone in the field. Its chief competitor is Atlanta-based MDS, a division of CCN Group, Nottingham, England.

While MDS is dwarfed by Fair, Isaac, the division's management team has set its sights on expanding in the United States. Executives have noted that the British parent - which is larger than Fair, Isaac - has a strong presence globally and is also focusing on target marketing and customer retention tools.

Roger Aubrook, MDS's chief executive, told the American Banker last November, My drive is to improve the technology, the software, the scoring, the vision, leading the development groups, and client relationships, which are extremely important to us.
