Tech Bytes: MasterCard, Servantis Set Electronic Seminars

Home banking allies MasterCard International and Servantis Systems Inc. are holding a series of regional seminars on electronic banking services.

The companies said the programs were developed to help bankers in their decision-making on remote banking services, as well as to promote the two companies' cooperative offerings.

"Few topics are more pressing in the banking industry today than remote banking and electronic bill payment," said A. Christian Fredrick, MasterCard's senior vice president for remote banking.

"Financial institutions are increasingly concerned with maximizing consumer convenience and retail banking profitability, and MasterCard and Servantis have joined together to address this need."

MasterCard and Servantis struck a remote banking and electronic bill payment deal in November 1995. Checkfree Corp., a former MasterCard home banking partner, recently announced plans to acquire Servantis.

The pair have already held conferences in Dallas and San Francisco. Others are scheduled in February and March in New Orleans, Boston, Washington D.C., and Chicago later this month and in March.
