Roundup: Union Planters Acquires Three Banks in South

Union Planters Corp. said it had completed its acquisitions of Capital Bancorp., First Bancshares of Eastern Arkansas, and First Bancshares of Northeast Arkansas.

Capital Bancorp has subsidiary banks in Branson, Cape Girardeau, Clayton, Columbia, Perryville, Sikeston, Springfield and St. Louis, Mo., and Jonesboro, Ark. At Yearend, Capital showed total assets of about $1.1 billion.

First Bancshares of Eastern Arkansas operates the First National Bank in West Memphis and has an additional office in Marion, Ark. First National ended the year with about $58 million in assets.

First Bancshares of Northeast Arkansas is the holding company for First National Bank in Osceola, with other locations in Joiner and Luxora, Ark. First National has about $59 million in assets.

Memphis-based Union Planters, with assets of $11 billion, has 40 affiliates in Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi and Tennessee. It has pending acquisitions of Eastern National Bank in Miami and Valley Federal Savings Bank, Sheffield, Ala.
