In Brief: Maine Thrift to Merge Units, Change Name

The board of directors of Bethel Bancorp has voted to merge the company's two subsidiaries, Bethel Savings Bank and Brunswick Federal Savings Bank, creating Northeast Bank.

The thrift will move its corporate headquarters to the Lewiston/Auburn area, where it will also open a branch. Two nonbanking subsidiaries, ASI Data Services Inc. and First New England Benefits, are already located in Lewiston, which is in the center of the thrift's service area.

Northeast will have more than $200 million in assets, with eight branches in four Maine counties.
