In Briefs: Institutional Unit Gets Chase Securities Analyst

Donald J. Fine, a veteran bank economist, has been named chief market analyst and managing director of Chase Asset Management Inc., the institutional investment management unit of Chase Manhattan Corp.

Mr. Fine, who joined Chase Manhattan in 1969, served for the past nine years as chief market analyst for Chase Securities Inc.

Chase Manhattan is in the process of merging with Chemical Banking Corp., which has an economics staff at its similar unit, Chemical Securities Inc.

After the merger, Charles Lieberman, the head forecaster at Chemical Securities, will be chief economist for the global bank, which will operate under the Chase name.

Richard Aspinwall, senior vice president and chief economist at Chase, will retain that position. Irwin Kellner, regional economist at Chemical, will continue in that role at Chase.

At Chase Asset Management, which is part of Chase's global asset management and private banking division, Mr. Fine will track trends in the U.S. economy and movements in interest rates as well as Federal Reserve policy. The economist is a graduate of Columbia University and the University of Michigan.
