Card Briefs: Visa's Interlink Adding Pacific Rim Banks

Visa International said its Asia-Pacific region has made inroads in signing on financial institutions for its on-line Interlink deposit access program.

United Overseas Bank in Singapore and Credit Union Services Corp. Ltd. in Australia have signed on to Interlink, Visa said.

Thai Farmers Bank, Thai Military Bank, and Siam Commercial, all based in Bangkok, are scheduled to have Interlink programs under way for the first and second quarters of this year.

In Taiwan, Shanghai Commercial and Savings Bank, Pan Asia Bank, and Financial Information Service Center will issue Interlink.

Visa said Maybank in Malaysia will become the region's 100th financial institution to connect to Interlink, introducing cards with the Interlink logo within the next six months.

Visa said the number of Interlink cards to be issued in Asia-Pacific this year will top 25 million, with more than 36,000 merchant locations accepting the cards.
