Tech Bytes: U.S. Order Hires Chief For Home Banking Unit

U.S. Order has tapped an executive from Deluxe Data Systems Inc. to head the company's home banking division.

Joseph E. Smith, formerly senior vice president of client services, sales, and marketing at Deluxe, will now oversee U.S. Order's expansion into new technologies and forge new alliances in home banking.

Although U.S. Order initially made its mark in financial services as a maker of screen telephones, the company has been taking steps more recently to broaden its alternative delivery offerings.

"This appointment is timely," said John Backus, the president and chief operating officer of U.S. Order. "Our company is rapidly developing and bringing new products to market. Joe is an executive with a breadth of experience that includes electronic home banking, high technology, building strategic alliances, and developing alternative channels of distribution."

Prior to his tenure at Deluxe, Mr. Smith handled sales and marketing for Calcomp Inc., a unit of Lockheed Martin Corp.
