In Brief: GE Executive Named to Head Mortgage Unit

GE Capital Mortgage Corp. has named Thomas H. Mann president and chief executive. He replaces Michael Zafirovski, who was promoted within General Electric last month.

Mr. Mann will report to Michael A. Neal, executive vice president at GE Capital Corp., who temporarily assumed Mr. Zafirovski's duties. Previously, Mr. Mann was vice president and general manager at GE Capital Vendor Financial Services.

This is Mr. Mann's second foray into the mortgage industry. He was executive vice president of operations at General Electric's mortgage insurance unit from 1986 to 1990. He then joined Vendor Financial Services, which offers financing to equipment manufacturers and distributors. He has worked for GE since 1973 in the financial management program and on the corporate audit staff.

Mr. Mann assumed his new post last Friday, a company spokesman said. He will also act as executive vice president of GE Capital Mortgage Services. A company spokesman said that opening will be filled soon.

Gregory T. Barmore, chairman of the mortgage unit, will not be affected by the new appointment, the spokesman said.

Mr. Mann was not available for comment.
