First Data Names Pres. Of Card Services Unit

First Data Corp.'s card services group has named Mike L. Massey president of professional services, a division of First Data Resources.

He was interim president of the unit since the death of Judge Fowler 4th in a plane crash late last year.

Mr. Massey, 44, joined First Data Corp. in 1994 as senior vice president of the electronic funds services unit. He has also held executive positions in the company's oil services division.

Mr. Massey, who will simultaneously hold the title executive vice president of First Data Resources, is reporting to First Data's president Aldo Tesi.

Mr. Massey had previously worked for Sprint Communications, running its data and mailing facilities. From 1982 to 1993, he worked in data and network operations at Visa International.

In other news, First Data Corp. announced a joint effort with Polaroid Corp. to provide card issuers with a photographic fraud protection option for customers.

Using Polaroid's Photocard system, financial institutions can take instant color photographs for their cards. First Data will scan, digitize, and store images and corresponding signatures at its Omaha facility. The company will also produce, package, and ship the embossed cards.
