MasterCard Redefining Global Service

To the Editor:

Re "MasterCard Offers Global Assistance Service, Catching Up with Amex, Visa" (April 22, page 26), MasterCard's is not just another emergency assistance program for cardholders. In fact, MasterCard Global Service is leading the way.

At its core, MasterCard Global Service is a sophisticated data base that houses issuers' detailed instructions on how to service cardholders in more than 20 commonly occurring emergency situations. It is truly an extension of an issuer's own customer-service infrastructure.

MasterCard representatives can effectively address every single cardholder inquiry on the first call, in the caller's native language, 24 hours a day, regardless of card type (standard, gold, business, cobranded, affinity) and its customized package of benefits and enhancements. We believe no other service offers this capability.

Cardholder needs for assistance are diverse and come at any hour of day or night. Lost of stolen card reporting and emergency card replacement are among the most traditional. But cardholders also may call to locate the nearest ATM or report a claim that is handled by an issuer's insurance administrator. We belienve MasterCard Global Service is the only program capable of handling these types of inquiries on the first call.
