America Online Steps Up Electronic Commerce Push

America Online, Inc., Vienna, Va., has licensed electronic commerce technologies from five leaders in the field: Cybercash Inc., IBM Infomarket, RSA Data Security, Terisa Systems, and Verisign.

A spokeswoman for America Online said the announcements were the first public sign of the company's "integrated electronic commerce strategy." But she added: "We're not at this time willing to get into the specifics of implementations."

America Online operates an Internet-only access service called Global Network Navigator, with 200,000 subscribers, in addition to its better- known on-line service, which has 5.5 million members.
