N.J.'s Statewide Savings Hires Michael Griffin As President

Statewide Savings Bank, Jersey City, the principal subsidiary of Statewide Financial Corp., said this week that it had hired Michael J. Griffin as president and chief operating officer.

Mr. Griffin had worked since 1981 for units of Summit Bancorp, Princeton. He left Summit last month.

At the time he was executive vice president of Summit Bank's Chatham branch. There he oversaw development of asset-based products and installation and updates of system applications, as well as performing due diligence for mergers and acquisitions.

Earlier he was president and chief executive officer of two Summit acquisitions - Maplewood Bank and Trust Co. and later Town and Country Bank - which he helped integrate into the holding company. He then became executive vice president of Somerset Trust Co., Somerville, another Summit unit.

Mr. Griffin started his career at Commercial Trust Co., Jersey City, and eventually became vice president and treasurer.
