Card Briefs: MasterCard Exec Leads American U. Board

MasterCard International executive William I Jacobs has been elected chairman of the American University board of trustees.

He succeeded Edward R. Carr, who held the post for eight years and remains on the board.

Mr. Jacobs, who oversees MasterCard administrative functions as executive vice president of global resources, has been a trustee since 1988. He had been chairman of the finance and audit committee and served on the executive, trusteeship, and investment committees.

He earned a bachelor's degree from American University and a JD from the Washington College of Law.
