Rapidly ascending Citicorp's executive ladder, William Campbell has his foot held firmly on the rung just below CEO John Reed. As the new head of retail banking-a title that takes on new meaning in light

of the bank's recent reorganization-Campbell has direct line responsibility for all retail products and services extending all the way down to tellers in San Francisco and credit card product managers in Singapore. By giving Campbell global control of the retail bank-including the credit card division-Citi can seamlessly transfer its product strategy from one country to another, says James Shanahan, partner of Business Dynamics Consultants, based in Nyack, NY. Campbell, formerly Phillip Morris U.S.A.'s chairman, brings a natural branding proficiency and international perspective to the bank consistent with Reed's goals for Citi, Shanahan says. ... Reshuffling at Citicorp seems to have affected more than retail's top slot. With the re-org came the retirement announcements of Roberta Arena, credit card division chief, and Colin Crook, the bank's senior technology officer. Crook's retirement signals to some that Reed is looking outside the industry to develop Citi's tech future, pointing to evp of advanced development Edward Horowitz, who he brought over from Viacom earlier this year. ... The micropayments world has a new exec in Michael Nash, who's been appointed CEO of DigiCash.
