Rave Debut Reviews

Great job! FutureBanker is just what I need and I suspect that I will not be alone.

Nevertheless, even if it turns out that I represent your entire target audience, thanks. Your hard work is appreciated. The right note, attractive, informative-almost hip.

In the last Congress, we held four hearings on "The Future of Money" that began the educational process for Congress regarding digital commerce and the future of banking. We introduced Gemplus, Mondex and Security First Network Bank, among many others, to the members of our committee.

Later this year, we plan to have one or more hearings on whether digital authentication might be assisted with federal legislation to supplant the 14 differing state standards (and to anticipate the EU who are liable to give us an ISO standard that needs to be composed in French and litigated in Brussels).

Keep up with the standard you have established, and it will be insanely great.

-John Lopez, senior counsel, Monetary Policy Subcommittee, House Banking Committee

I very much enjoyed the "look" of your new magazine. The appearance and content really bridge the gaps that all-too-often exist between senior functional management (CFOs, CIOs, etc.), heads of lines of business and executive management (CEOs and COOs).

I was a contributor to the predecessor FutureBanking, so I have greatly anticipated your inaugural issue of FutureBanker. Congratulations. It looks great.

I particularly enjoyed the piece on Hollywood (Hurray for Hollywood, April 1997). Financial services will have to take on an aspect of financial entertainment in the new technologically diverse word to remain relevant. It is indeed, as Holly Sraeel says, "a matter of taking risks, thinking content and forgetting you're a banker."

-Tom Vartanian, consultant, Washington, D.C.

I want to add my voice to the chorus of congratulations that you are surely receiving on the new FutureBanker.

The content is timely and focused; the writing is crisp; and the graphics are exciting. I enjoyed executive editor Joanna Smith Bers's provocative cover story (Hurray for Hollywood, April 1997), and readers will certainly be looking for Holly Sraeel's column every month.

Congratulations for adding this new sparkle to the industry!

Chase on the Record

Ouch all of us were surprised by the tone and content of your paragraph on Chase e-banking (Between the Lines, May 1997).

I hope you realize that we could not accommodate your request to talk about pricing strategy because of Chase's upcoming announcement regarding its free proprietary product.

Just for the record, sign-ups for Chase Online banking are exceeding our expectations. And we think the "notable industry analyst" you cite is dead wrong.

Cards for Women Inc.

Thank you very much for highlighting our exciting new relationship with Banc One ("Women Entrepreneurs: The Next Hot Market," May 1997).

Our goal is to improve the business environment for women and one of the most important arenas is access to capital and credit.

Banc One is actually only one of a number of partners that participate in Women Incorporated's National Financial Network. Each partner provides exclusive service to our members in a geographic area or product category.

Your article incorrectly suggested that Banc One would provide credit cards to Women Incorporated members. Actually, Advanta Business Services is the Women Incorporated exclusive provider of business credit cards.

Advanta has been an important partner since the start of Women Incorporated. They have made a number of changes in their processing in order to assist more women, and we are proud to have the Advanta MasterCard as a tool for our members' cash flow

management.

-Lindsey Johnson Suddarth, CEO, Women Incorporated

Editor Responds: Due to an editing error, FutureBanker incorrectly reported that Banc One is the credit card provider to Women, Incorporated. FB regrets the error.
